Dozens of shipping companies who received back tax claims totalling millions of dollars from Nigerian government officials have been given until the end of December to pay in full.

The oil-rich African nation’s Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) has notified shipping companies hit with hefty tax claims that “as a measure of goodwill” the Nigerian government has decided to grant a three-month window for foreign shipping companies operating in Nigeria to regularise their tax status in the country and grant another three-month window for payment of all outstanding taxes.
