No restrictions currently exist on the bareboat chartering out of vessels in Norway’s tonnage tax regime. But the government has indicated that new rules will come into effect from 1 July as it extends the tax regime for another 10 years.

So what can shipowners expect? 

Highlighting the key changes to the regime, Oslo law firm Thommessen says that the right to bareboat out will be limited to 50% of a tonnage-taxed company’s ships or taxed tonnage within a group.
