The US Coast Guard (USCG) received the fifth application for type-approval of ballast treatment gear as the agency ramps up efforts to get ships to follow US rules for treating ballast water.
The USCG's Marine Safety Center says it will review an application from Ecochlor for the company's ballast treatment system.
Ecochlor's gear uses a combination of filtration and chlorine dioxide to rid ballast water of invasive species.
