Maersk Line’s acquisition of Hamburg Sud was not an “emergency sale” by its parent Oetker Group.
The German containership company’s CEO Ottmar Gast told the Hamburger Abendblatt that the deal was not “absolutely essential” and Hamburg Sud has been profitable for the last eight years.
He denied the owner had been losing EUR 1m ($1.07m) per day, but admitted results had been unsatisfactory for Oetker.
