The Philippines is planning to introduce a shorter ro-ro route to Indonesia to boost trade.
The Rappler website cited a statement from the department of transportation that said a maiden voyage would take place on 28 April from Davao City to Bitung City.
The current route takes five weeks, with ships sailing north to Manila and then across the South China Sea through Malaysian waters.
