Icelandic container line Eimskip has confirmed a deal for new boxships is very close.

TradeWinds cited sources as saying last week that it has agreed a deal to build three firm and three optional 2,200-teu vessels at Chinese state-owned Huangpu Wenchong Shipyard for a combined $192m.

But the company said it and partner Royal Arctic Line (RAL) of Greenland had been in negotiations with shipyards in China over two ice-class ships of 2,150 teu.
