Shippers continue to face unexpected hikes in the price of freight caused by a shortage of capacity on the backhaul trade from Europe to Asia.
It is nearly $200 per feu (40ft containers) cheaper to ship a container from Asia to Northern Europe than vice versa.
The situation is highly unusual. Eastbound volumes from Europe to Asia are normally only two-thirds full.
