Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) CEO Yoo Chang-keun has revealed the financial and operational headaches prompted by new regulations on low-sulphur fuel and ballast water treatment.
Speaking at the TMP Asia conference in Shenzhen, China, Yoo said that, on the one hand, the company is committed to the principle of the rules because they will protect the environment.
But on the other hand, he added, "we cannot help being concerned about the operational and commercial challenges, which are different from the conventional ones, as we identified too many uncertainties related to the ways of compliance to these regulations in the course of making due preparations."
