Icelandic fisheries company Samherji has taken a major holding in compatriot container line Eimskip.

It said the 25% stake had been acquired from US investment fund Yucaipa for ISK 11bn ($102m).

Samherji is now the biggest shareholder, as Yucaipa appears to have sold its entire holding.

Icelandic newspaper Visir said the deal gives Samherji an investment in 22 ships and offices in 20 countries.
