China Merchants has upped its newbuilding orderbook with a deal for a containership at a domestic yard.
Brokers said its Shanghai Changjiang unit has contracted a 1,140-teu feeder vessel at CSC Jiangdong.
Delivery is set for 2020, but no price was revealed.
The giant owner now has 19 vessels on order, including three containerships.
Last week, Chinese shipowner Wuhan New Port Construction Investment and Development Group (Wuhan XG) continued its drive into container shipping with a new order at CSC Jiangdong.
