The $743.3mcontract given to a joint venture of Skanska Koch and Kiewit Infrastructurewill raise the deck of the bridge which connects New Jersey with Staten island by 64feet.
It willallow post-panamax ships to pass under the bridge and reach the Port Authorityof New York & New Jersey’s container terminals.
The projectis critical to maintaining and enhancing the competitiveness of the terminalswhich handle 30% of all goods shipped to the East Coast, the authority says.
