The12,600-gt ro-pax Aratere (built 1998) has been at a Keppel shipyard in Singaporesince February after being put out of commission when its propeller broke off inNovember.
Astatement from KiwiRail says new shafts, old propellers and stabilisers havebeen reinstalled ready as they prepare for sea trials.
Butwhile reinstalling the rudders, checks found a crack in the port and starboardrudder stock. Options for repairs are being assessed.
