In a statement the New York-listed cruiseship operator said Jorge Vilches was hired to serve as the new head of Pullmantur, which is one of six of the US company’s brands.

Royal Caribbean noted Vilches spent the last ten years of his career in the travel industry. Prior to today’s appointment it said he served as CEO of the Latam Airlines Group, which is headquartered in Santiago, Chile.

"Pullmantur plays an important role in Royal Caribbean's long term strategy, particularly as we expand the brand's reach into Latin America,” Fain continued.

“We are confident that Jorge will use his strategic insights and market awareness to make Pullmantur the undisputed cruise leader in Spain and Latin America."

According to the press release Pullmantur oversees a fleet of five cruiseships with a daily capacity of more than 12,000 passengers. Its parent also pointed out that, as of today, 60% of the brand’s business is located in Latin America.
