The company told the Shanghai stock exchange that it had selected CSSC’s Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding to build the 14,500-teu vessels at a cost of $618m.
They will be delivered in 2017 and 2018.
The ships were originally earmarked to be 14,000 teu, but CCHC said during further design refinements it was found that they were capable of carrying an extra 500 boxes
TradeWinds reported the likely order in July, with Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding tipped as the most likely to win the business, because the state-owned yard is currently constructing five vessels of 9,400 teu for the company.
