The newbuilding will cost $3.8m and the company said it is thought to be the first ever built in Michigan.
Local yard Moran Iron Works has been awarded the construction project.
Bill Shepler, chief executive of the family-run company, said: “The idea of building a climate-controlled ferry for our customers right here in Michigan instead of sending the work elsewhere really appealed to us.”
