On Thursday, Toru Otoda pleaded guilty to the charge in the US District Court in Maryland and was sentenced to 18 months in jail.

He is the fourth Japanese shipping executive to be jailed as a result of the US Department of Justice’s investigation.

Two other K Line employees and a NYK executive have already been handed down similar custodial sentences.

According to the one-count felony charge filed on 22 January 2015, Otoda conspired to allocate customers and routes, rig bids and fix prices for the sale of international ocean shipments of ro-ro cargo to and from the US and elsewhere.
