Hamid Reza Jahanian, the managing director of Pars Talayieh, told the Fars news agency that the arrest of the 5,470-teu, 2014-built Maersk Tigris was "purely financial."
He added attempts are being made to politicise the matter, adding that the true reason behind the seizure was the damages inflicted upon the Iranian company by Maersk.
On 28 April, Iranian forces fire shots across the ship and then boarded it, bringing it to anchor off Qeshm island.
