The Australian government’s bid to open up the domestic shipping industry to overseas operators has been kicked out by the senate.
Foreign vessels working between Australian ports for more than six months per year would have been able to pay overseas wages to their crew.
However, the legislation was voted down 31 to 28, ABC reported.
But the news prompted Dubai ports operator DP World to say its plans to develop an AUD 20m ($14.43m)
