US class society ABS and Chinese shipowner Cosco are teaming up on developing Arctic shipping.
A cooperation agreement has been signed in Shanghai by ABS greater China division president and COO Eric Kleess and captain Meijiang Cai, director of Cosco's safety and technology supervision division.
The two companies want to take advantage of changing climate conditions, which are opening up new operational and trading opportunities in previously unnavigable areas, they said.
