German shipowner NSB Niederelbe has secured a strong price from the scrap sale of what is one of the youngest boxships to be demolished this year.

It has weighed in the 5,500-teu Conti Taipei (built 2002) for demolition in India, sources say.

A figure of $311 per ldt has been paid for the vessel, equal to $7.26m, brokers believe.

Attempts to obtain comment from the German owner were not possible at the time of writing today.
