Seaspan Corp has acquired two newbuilding 11,000-teu containerships from Greater China Intermodal Investments (GCI) for $195.6m.
These vessels come with 17-year bareboat charters to Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) which will generate income of about $17.7m in the first full year of operation.
MSC is obligated to purchase the vessels for a pre-determined amount at the end of their respective charters.
The two vessels are sister ships to the three vessels Seaspan has scheduled for delivery in 2017 and chartered to MSC.
