The newly merged classification society, which employs 16,000 staff, has started the process in the past 12 months and has reduced some staff numbers recently in China and Norway.
TradeWinds reported the company was looking to shed positions last month.
But the group, which has put a recruitment freeze into operation and intends to continue that for the foreseeable future, denies some reports that it will be laying off large numbers of maritime staff.
