EMAS Chiyoda Subsea has asked a US court to allow it to rip up several charter contracts as part of its Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Houston.
The contracts amount to at least $342m in remaining charter payments.
The cancellation request is the latest move in a bankruptcy case that started last week for the offshore vessel owner, whose financial woes have also spread to shareholder Ezra Holdings.
