The two oil majors are said to be looking to acquire the 98,312-dwt Maersk Curlew (built 1983), according to TradeWinds sister publication Upstream.
The unit has been on charter to Shell and ExxonMobil since it was converted from the former tanker Maersk Dorset in 2007.
The oil majors started talks about buying the vessel after the Danish giant said FPSOs were a non-core division a year ago.
