The US State Department’s chief of mission security in Nigeria is investigating the incident, said deputy spokeswoman Marie Harf during a daily briefing. She said the main concern is for the safe return of the two mariners.
“We are seeking additional information about the incident so that we may contribute to safely resolving the situation,” she said, echoing a similar statement today by White House spokesman Jay Carney.
