The Singapore offshore vessel owner will supply its newbuilding Cygnus Sentinel to the French energy company’s GDF Suez E&P UK division for work on the Cygnus field in UK waters of the North Sea.

The 3,800-bhp vessel is slated to start the contract in January 2015 after it is delivered from Fujian Southeast shipyard in China. The Cygnus Sentinel is one of eight ERRVs that Sentinel has ordered at the yard.

“All eight vessels have a fuel and environmentally efficient design and offer the crews a high level of on-board comfort,” said Sentinel managing director Jonathan Mitchell. “The vessels will comply with pan European industry standards, which will allow them to work in all areas of the North Sea as well as throughout the UK Continental Shelf.”

The Cygnus field, which is the largest UK gas discovery in 25 years, is expected to supply 5% of the United Kingdom’s gas needs when it reaches peak production in 2016. GDF Suez is operating the field with partners Centrica Energy and Bayerngas UK.

Sentinel boasts a fleet of 20 ERRVs, anchor handling tug-supply vessels and platform supply vessels, including newbuildings.
