Total has warned Idan Ofer-controlled Pacific Drilling that it will terminate a drillship contract.
But the drilling contractor said it is working to negotiate another arrangement.
Total plans to cut the 3,660-metre-water-depth Pacific Scirocco (built 2011) because of a reduction of activity in Nigeria, Pacific Drilling chief executive Christian Beckett said in a conference call with analysts.
Termination fee
The French oil giant has affirmed its commitment to the termination fee, which would see it pay 80% of the day rates through the end of the contract, Beckett added.
