The Offshore Northern Seas (ONS) industry exhibition kicked off in the Norwegian oil capital of Stavanger on Monday against a background of low and unstable oil prices, reduced exploration-and-production (E&P) activity, layoffs and a meagre rates environment for offshore-vessel owners, with many ships now idled.

The Norwegian government used the opening day to officially launch its 24th block-licensing round.

It earlier committed to maintaining oil and gas as a key industry for the country.

Some
