Norway's Island Offshore is bucking the trend for downsizing in the North Sea market by re-employing 300 redundant workers.

The company said the move was being made due to its winning several important contracts in recent weeks, according to the E24 website.

Laid-up ships are coming back into the market, including two multipurpose support vessels, the 8,200-dwt Island Wellserver (built 2008) and the 4,000-dwt Island Frontier (built 2004), which have new term deals from 1 April.
