Remoy Shipping chief executive Karsten Saevik says the impetus for the outfit's ambitious ReFuel project came two years ago when charterer Statoil challenged the company on fuel consumption.

The oil major invited Remoy to join a cost-benefit scheme that promised a bonus for using less fuel but sharing the cost of using more.

Saevik applauds Statoil for the industry-leading initiative and hopes more charterers follow suit.
