More than 2,000 passengers saw their holiday plans dented by severe delays following an engine failure on a Greek-owned ferry in the Aegean.

The Hellenic Coast Guard (HCG) said that the 14,640-gt Nissos Rodos (built 1987), owned by Hellenic Seaways, suffered damage on its right main engine.

It was en route from Piraeus to the popular island of Paros, where it moored four hours behind schedule after it was forced to sail at a lower speed.
