UK owner Carisbrooke Shipping says it has saved money and yard time by having its crews install ballast water treatment systems (BWTS) on two general cargoships.

The DIY retrofit of the Optimarin equipment took place on the 8,700-dwt sisters Vectis Falcon and Vectis Eagle (both built 2012) during the course of normal operations, the company added.

Tore Andersen, executive vice president of sales and marketing at Optimarin, told TradeWinds that a few other shipowners have carried out a similar procedure previously.
