A car carrier seafarer has been taken to hospital in the UK after an accident while fishing.

The unnamed 35-year-old man impaled his finger on a fishhook on the 802-ceu City of Paris (built 1999) near Tynemouth on Saturday.

The master called the coast guard after the incident, the RNLI said.

The injury was not said to be severe, but the hook was firmly embedded in the digit, which required minor surgery.
