An initial investigation onboard the 41,000-gt Istra Ace (built 2007) has revealed faulty piping that may have allowed oil to leak from the starboard side of the ship.
As TradeWinds reported yesterday, the US Coast Guard (USCG) noticed an unknown quantity of heavy fuel in the vicinity of the vessel, which was moored at the Los Angeles harbour.
Further assessments took place on Monday, in order to help determine the extent of the oil spilled.
