The UK government has confirmed its intention to stick with its Coastguard reform plans.

Those plans include amendments agreed in July which saved a number of stations from the chop.

The service will now comprise a 24-hour maritime operations centre at Fareham, with a back-up facility at the existing Dover coordination centre.

In addition, eight Coastguard centres have survived the cull, all operated on a 24 hour basis.
