Top Ships has taken over a newbuilding on order at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard initially contracted privately by chief executive Evangelos Pistiolis.
US-listed Top Ships has paid $3.6m for control of the one-ship company that owns the 50,000-dwt Eco California.
The ship, for delivery in January 2019, comes complete with a long-term contract with an oil major.
