Wilmar looks to have returned to Sonangol to buy its second MR tanker from the Angolan state-owned company in as many months.
The Robert Kuok-backed commodities giant is said to have paid around $5m for the 45,999-dwt Imbondeiro (built 1998), say brokers.
“This represents good value both in price and trading, particularly as clean trading MRs have seen relative buoyancy in comparison to the steep fall in clean handy and dirty panamax rates since the turn of the year,” said UK shipbroker Affinity (Shipping).
