Irish Continental Group has sold off a ferry 16 years after it was replaced in its trading fleet.

It has secured EUR 45m ($49.9m) for the 22,400-gt Kaitaki (built 1994) which has been sold to New Zealand ferry operator KiwiRail.

ICG explains the vessel became surplus to requirements back in 2001 when a newbuilding arrived and the ship has been on charter outside of the Irish Ferries fleet since 2002.
