Thoresen tipped to have tied up Songa Bulk supramax

Thai owner believed to be the buyer of ship sold by asset player last week.

Thoresen Shipping of Thailand is believed to have secured its third bulker buy of 2017.

Bangkok-listed Thoresen has acquired the 58,700-dwt Songa Marlin (built 2009), shipbrokers believe.

TradeWinds reported last week that Songa had sold the vessel.

A price of around $14m is being placed on the ship, for which Songa paid $11.85m in November last year.

Thoresen executives declined to comment on any potential transaction due to stock exchange regulations.

If confirmed, the Songa Marlin will add to the acquisitions of the 58,500-dwt Crystal Palace (built 2008) and the 54,000-dwt Karaweik (built 2006) during 2017.

The January addition of the Karaweik was Thoresen’s first purchase since the spring of 2014, according to data from VesselsValue.

Today, Thoresen has a fleet of 21 predominantly supramax bulkers worth just short of $215m, VesselsValue says.
