Diana Shipping of Greece is believed to be the buyer of the 179,000-dwt JK Pioneer (built 2013).
Brokers are placing a figure of between $52m and $53m on the Hyundai Heavy Industries built vessel.
It is suggested the price reflects both the improved prospects for the market and the limited number of willing sellers of modern capes today.
Interestingly, the JK Pioneer is attached to a charter contract worth $11,500 daily which runs until March 2014.
