It has acquired the Japanese controlled 56,023-dwt Ikan Serong (built 2006) for what it described as “an attractive market price”.
TradeWinds first reported that the expanding Thai shipowner was being linked with the ship in late January for close to $23m.
Thoresen took delivery of the ship, which has been renamed Thor Magnhild, in Karaikal, India on 19 February.
The ship is due to load a coal cargo on 23 February in Richards Bay, South Africa, for discharge in the Gulf of Aden.
