Tuofu weighs in bulker

A bulker on which two crewmen died last month from suspected gas inhalation is heading for the breakers yard.

Tuofu Shipping Management has sent the 64,000–dwt Tuo Fu 3 (built 1993) for demolition in Bangladesh at between $485 and $491 per ldt, it is claimed.

This translates to at least $7.7m for the owner of the bulker, which has been sold with 750 tons on bulkers on board.

The price was further aided by the 4,000 tons of renewed steel following its conversion from a tanker to a bulker in 2010, GMS says.

In April TradeWinds reported two crewman had died on the vessel after reportedly inhaling poisonous gases while the ship was off India.

The men were examining a cargo of non-coking coal on the 64,000–dwt Tuo Fu 3 (built 1993) 130km from Haldia when the accident occurred.
