DCIX expands its fleet

Diana Containerships has agreed to the purchase of two post-panamax container vessels from Japanese owner Shoei Kisen Kaisha, at the price of $22.2m each.

It has bought the 5,576-teu YM March and YM Great (both built 2004) just a few days after a $92m private placement.

The two vessels are chartered to Yang Ming (UK) at a net charter rate of $12,000 per day.

They are expected to be delivered to the Athens-headquartered company by mid-October 2014.

Based on the existing time charterparties, the charterer has the option to redeliver the YM Great at any time between 7 September 2014 and 7 March 2015 and YM March at any time between 6 November this year and 6 April next year.

With this latest addition, Diana Containership's fleet will consist of 10 boxships - four post-panamaxes and six panamaxes.
