The shipbuilder said on its website that the vessels will be delivered in 2017 for the Oarai to Tomakomai route.
The 200-metre-long vessels will travel at up to 24 knots.
The 14,000-gt ships will feature a contra-rotating propeller (CRP) system and an optimised hull form to reduce fuel consumption, the yard said.
There will also be a hybrid propulsion system using twin electric drives.
