The ship will be the third generation of ferry to run between Nolsoy and Torshavn for shipowner Strandfaraskip Landsins.
The new vessel will replace the 40m ro-pax running the route currently.
A tender for its construction will be issued next month.
The 675-gt ship will feature hybrid diesel electric/battery propulsion.
