Standard and Poor’s (S&P) is expecting fewer bulker newbuilding deals in 2016 while boxship owners could carry on active ordering.

The ratings company said in a report that orders for new tonnage will slow down this year and, consequently, capital expenditure will be lower.

But it differentiated between dry bulk and boxship owners, with the latter more likely to put pen to paper for ultra-large containerships in the race for lower unit costs.
