Chevron appears to have finalised a $200m contract to construct a pair of special purpose lightering tankers at Samsung Heavy Industries of South Korea.
Market sources tell TradeWinds the 150,000-dwt vessels will cost the US energy giant around $97m a piece.
Brokers say the price, which is well above the $60m one might pay to build a suezmax crude carrier in today’s market, reflects the technological complexity of the project.
