Japan’s shipbuilders are looking to adopt new cutting edge technologies in a bid to remain competitive in the face of the stronger yen and reduced demand for orders.

They hope the use of technologies such as virtual reality will help them to cut some functions by up to 40%, reports Japanese financial daily Nikkei.

The Japan Ship Technology Research Association is reported to be investing JPY 45m ($448,000) into the developing a system to analyze workers’ behavioral patterns.
