Ecuador’s state-owned Astinave shipyard is plotting to upgrade its capacity.

It could form a public-private partnership with an overseas investor in the next three months, the Esmerk daily said.

Sources from Astinave said the shipyard would be expanded in two phases over five to six years.

It hopes to be able to build and repair vessels up to post-panamax size.

The first phase would see its current facilities expanded in Guayaquil.
