Fincantieri is hoping to rename STX France's shipyard Chantiers de l’Atlantique, after reaching an agreement to acquire 48% of the French cruiseship and navy shipbuilder.
Giuseppe Bono, chief executive of the Italian shipbuilder, is reportedly keen to see the old name brought back.
The move is also seen as an attempt to win favour for the acquisition, with many French people unhappy that an Italian company is taking over the country’s flagship yard at a time when the cruise business is booming.
